Guardianship and Conservatorship

Vienna

8300 Boone Boulevard, Suite 500

Vienna, Virginia 22315

In Virginia, a court can order a guardianship for any person that it finds to be incapable of managing his or her affairs. A guardian is a third party who has legal authority to make medical and care decisions for the person under guardianship (often referred to as the Respondent or Ward).

Likewise, a court can order a conservatorship for any person who is found to be incapable of managing financial affairs necessary to support one's self.

Often, guardianship and conservatorship can be a last resort intervention when other methods for permitting others to manage one's affairs (such as powers of attorney or trusts) are not available.

Our office represents clients in all matters related to guardianship and conservatorship in Virginia. Additionally, we serve as guardian and conservator for individuals as well.

Stafford

800 Corporate Drive, 3rd Floor

Trust Administration and Probate

Our office also assists clients with matters relating to trust administration and probate.

Probate is the formal court proceeding where a will is recognized and the carrying out of its terms are supervised by the court. In probate, an executor or administrator is appointed by the court to handle the administration of the estate.
